Outdoor concrete has different demands than a garage floor: constant UV exposure, chlorine and pool chemicals, temperature swings, and bare feet that need slip resistance instead of gloss. We use polyaspartic systems almost exclusively outdoors because standard epoxy will amber and can become brittle in direct Texas sun within a couple of seasons.
How we coat a patio or pool deck
Outdoor slabs get the same rigorous prep as our interior floors, plus weather-specific steps:
- Diamond grinding. The slab is ground to remove old sealer, stains and laitance and open the surface for bonding.
- Crack & spall repair. Common on older DFW patios from years of soil movement and sun exposure.
- Polyaspartic base coat. Applied with a texture additive built in for slip resistance around water.
- Color & texture pass. Decorative color flake or a knockdown texture can be added for a stone-like look.
- UV-stable topcoat. Seals everything and provides the cooling, non-slip surface finish.
