Polyaspartic is a fast-curing polyurea coating that can be installed and driven on within 24 hours, and it resists UV fading far better than standard epoxy. We use polyaspartic as both a stand-alone floor system and as the UV-stable topcoat over epoxy base coats on nearly every job we install — it's the single biggest upgrade over big-box DIY epoxy kits.
Why polyaspartic matters in North Texas
Standard epoxy is not UV-stable — left in direct sun (a driveway, a garage with the door open all day, a patio) it will amber and chalk within a couple of Texas summers. Polyaspartic resin doesn't have that weakness, which is why it's the right choice for driveways, sun-exposed patios, and any garage that gets direct light. It also cures fast enough to install in a single visit, and unlike epoxy, it can be applied across a wider temperature range — useful for winter installs in North Texas cold snaps.
How a polyaspartic install works
Prep is identical to our other coating systems; the difference is in the chemistry and schedule:
- Diamond grinding & repair. The slab is ground and any cracks or pitting repaired, exactly as with epoxy.
- Polyaspartic base coat. Applied at high build for durability and, if desired, flake or color is broadcast into it.
- Same-day topcoat. Because polyaspartic cures fast, the clear UV-stable topcoat can often go down the same day as the base coat — something epoxy systems can't do.
- Cure & walk-on. You can typically walk on the floor within a few hours and park vehicles around the 24-hour mark.
